Summer Fly-In Program

What is a fly-in program?

A fly-in program covers the cost of bringing prospective students to campus. These programs are offered by select colleges and often serve first-generation, underrepresented, and under-resourced students.

Fly-in programs give students the opportunity to experience campus life firsthand, connect with the college community, and gain a deeper understanding of the institution before deciding where to apply. Students can also determine fit, show demonstrated interest, and receive application strategy workshops, talking points, and personalized financial aid counseling.

Most programs require an application and are offered to rising seniors in the spring and high school seniors in the fall. In some cases, colleges invite admitted students to visit before deciding whether to accept their offer of admission by May 1.

Space is limited. If a student applies to a fly-in and is not selected, it does not affect their college application to that school. In fact, rejected applicants often receive an advantage in the admissions process and a fee waiver.

What is covered?

Colleges typically pay for flights, buses, or train tickets, alongside on-campus housing and dining hall meals.

What happens during a fly-in program?

These multi-day events include sitting in on classes, staying in dorms, meeting professors, and participating in social activities.

What do students need to apply?

Each school has a different application process, but most schools require:

  • A strong completed application (low acceptance rates)
  • Financial information for you and your family
  • An essay about why you’re interested in their school or how you’d benefit from a fly-in program
  • Letters of recommendation from teachers or school counselors
  • High school transcripts

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and supporters, these EIF Scholars are now better positioned to pursue their college and career goals. Their investments helped remove financial barriers and opened doors to new opportunities for students across North Texas.

When do I apply?

Programs are offered at different times of the year. See the list below for open applications.
