EIF is the architect and facilitator of the Dallas Works Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program, which aims to connect Dallas youth to summer employment opportunities under Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. An expansion of the Dallas Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program, Dallas Works helps to employ ninth through twelfth graders both in summer jobs as well as internships. Before beginning the nine-week paid program, students go through workforce readiness training to prepare them with the skills necessary to be successful in their jobs and internships.

In 2018, EIF helped design, launch and implement the Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program for Richardson students entering into their senior year of high school. With the support of Mayor Paul Voelker and the Superintendent Jeanne Stone, this program provided students with eight-week paid internships at top companies, nonprofits, and government entities in Richardson. In three years (in the midst of the COVID Pandemic), EIF touched 661 students, supported 112 student internships, worked with over 91 companies (many for consecutive years) and provided 9,318 hours of workforce readiness training.

What is EIF’s role in the Dallas Works Program?

• Recruitment and orientation of students
• Development of workforce readiness curriculum to address interview prep, workplace conduct, resume creation, and more
• Facilitating hands-on workforce readiness trainings for all applicants of both internship programs
• Processing student and company applications and communicating program requirements to each
• Planning and executing job fairs where interviews are held
• Matching students with roles at participating companies, nonprofits, and government entities
• Providing summer intern advisors to visit students weekly during their internships, ensuring that both students and companies are meeting program requirements and serving as mentors to students
