Dallas Home Rule Commissioner Kevin Malonson stops by to discuss the pros and cons of Home Rule: Why he voted against writing a charter, why he isn’t against reform, and what critics on both sides of the debate can learn from parents and educators. He also declines my offer to take a swing at me. Malonson is a longtime education advocate who currently works as a DISD vendor with his nonprofit Education is Freedom. I think this conversation will help wrap a bow on the HRC discussion.

Education is Freedom, a college readiness services organization, and Dallas Public Library will begin offering college access services at three library branches in November.  An Education is Freedom (EIF) mobile unit and a team of expert advisors will travel to the Pleasant Grove Branch, Bachman Lake Branch and Polk-Wisdom Branch beginning next week. The goal is to provide community level access to the resources students and parents need to complete college and financial aid applications, register for the requisite standardized tests, and receive answers to their higher education questions and concerns.
